Our cars assembled first up at Pirtek Stadium, then proceded to cavalcade through the streets of Parramatta to Parramatta Park. The day looked
threatening (weather wise) as the warm sun quickly disappeared , then a shower
looked to have set in, with suddenly the sun re-appearing and creating a
typical summers day!
There were over 500 cars, of various makes, all historic classics. Our wonderful machines looking great and attracting the appropriate
attention. I met a fellow that raced a FIAT 850 at Bathurst (when Bathurst was
Bathurst)... he exclaimed that his stock 903 coupé, was clocked at 104 mph (164km/h)
and completed 141 laps, when Mt Panorama had the dips an curves (unlike today)...
he also had a good thing to say about Alfa's! Amazing who you can meet at
these events. (we cannot disclose his name, by request!)
It was wonderful to have had the opportunity to have shared
Australia Day, as approximately 30 of our members (including visitors) gathered
around lunch time, for a few hours, assembling in the coolness & shade of
the gum trees. Many opting for the "traditional" methods of keeping cool, as
well.
